☕ How to Make Traditional Saudi Coffee (Gahwa)

Saudi coffee, known as Gahwa, is a symbol of hospitality and culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It’s light in color, aromatic, and often served with dates. Unlike dark roasted coffees, Saudi coffee uses lightly roasted beans blended with spices for a unique flavor.

🌿 Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of lightly roasted Arabica coffee (coarsely ground)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cardamom
  • 2–3 pieces of cloves (optional)
  • A pinch of saffron (optional)
  • 1 small piece of dried ginger or cinnamon stick (optional)
  • Dates for serving

πŸ«– Instructions:

  1. Boil the water in a pot.
  2. Add the ground coffee and let it boil for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat and add cardamom, cloves, and other optional spices.
  4. Let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the coffee into a traditional dallah (Arabic coffee pot) or a thermos.
  6. Let it settle for a minute or two before serving.

☕ Serving:

Saudi coffee is traditionally served in small handleless cups called finjan. It’s poured gently, usually less than half the cup, and offered to guests starting from the right.

Tip: Always serve with dates to balance the light bitterness of the coffee.
